Review: QMX’s “Atlas of the Verse, Vol 1”

Review: QMX’s “Atlas of the Verse, Vol 1”

June 20, 2010 By Summer Brooks Leave a Comment

QMx continues to bring us the loveliest and most lovingly researched and designed collectibles scifi fans can hope to obtain, and Serenity: Atlas of the Verse is one more gem in the long line of quality Firefly/Serenity merchandise they’ve provided over the years.

Atlas-page

Atlas of the Verse, written and illustrated by Ben Mund, is a large-format 26-page atlas that covers an 11 planet trade run. Firefly Executive Producer Tim Minear wrote an introduction, and Serenity graphic designer Geoffrey Mandel acted as design consultant for the book.

This atlas details the Trader’s Guild Guide to the New Canaan Run, a commercial trade route between the primary planets in the five systems of the Alliance — the White Sun, Blue Sun, Red Sun, Kalidasa, and Georgia systems.

Each entry has a breakdown of not only the physical planetary details, but also of the major and minor population centers for each planet, aerial maps and infrastructure details and “sample pages” from other guides about goods and products available.

The details on diagrams and flags, and on the worlds and the folks living on them, serve fans of Firefly/Serenity well in their ability to enhance and deepen the rich universe that we were only given a brief glimpse of, and this fan, for one, cannot wait to get ahold of “Volume 2” when it comes out.
