Set to debut next spring on SPIKE TV, “Deadliest Warrior” will feature computer-rendered imaginary bouts between historical tough guys, pitting for example, Genghis Khan’s Mongols against Nordic Vikings. Spike has ordered nine one-hour episodes of the series, which is produced by Morningstar Entertainment with Gary Tarpanian and Paninee Theeranuntawat serving as exec producers.

NBC is developing “Jason and the Argonauts,” which would be produced as the first-ever green-screen drama developed for primetime, reports Variety.

Fox has granted “Fringe,” its most successful show since “The X-Files,” a full season of episodes. CBS has done the same thing for its highest rated new series “The Mentalist.”

Paramount Pictures reduces its yearly releases down to just 20 films, making this one of the largest drop-offs in filmmaking. The reason? According to a press release it is being done to
“more effectively compete in the changing marketplace and to realize the maximum financial benefit of the series of new operating efficiencies achieved by the studio.”

Those affected will include projects under the banner of MTV Films, Nickelodeon Movies, Paramount Vantage, DreamWorks Animation and Marvel Studios.

Scribe Brad Ingelsby will adapt the DC Comics/Wildstorm “Sleeper,” for Warner Bros., Sam Raimi amd Star Road Entertainment. The comic, a creation of writer Ed Brubaker, tells the story of an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass the ability on to others through skin contact.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that its summer blockbuster “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor,” starring Brendan Fraser, Maria Bello and Jet Li, will come to DVD and Blu-ray on December 16, 2008, just in time for the holiday gift season.

Scientists have discovered tuberculosis in 9,000 year-old human bones found submerged off Israel’s coast — evidence the disease is at least 3,000 years older than previously thought, researchers said on Wednesday. The findings show how tuberculosis has evolved over thousands of years and provides a better understanding of ways it may change in the future, the researchers said.

A compelling history lesson that offers an insightful primer on the Kennedy presidency even while proving sadly germane to our current times, “Virtual JFK: Vietnam If Kennedy Had Lived” spells out its provocative premise in its title. Read full account HERE.
