Two DVD’s To Consider

December 31, 2007 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

The new year will begin with the release of two DVD’s to seriously consider for your collection.

7663701_ori.jpgThe first on the list is Jet Li’s “War.” Co-starring Jason Statham, this East meets West action film from Lionsgate pits the two action superstars against one another with a backdrop of rival gang wars and an FBI agent’s quest for vengeance. Statham is the agent hot on the trail of an assassin, played by Li.

This DVD release on Tuesday (January 1) will include both deleted and extended scenes, a making-of featurette, nine behind-the-scenes vignettes and two audio commentary tracks, one with director Philip G. Atwell, the other with the screenwriters. It is availabe in standard and Blu-ray disc formats. The Blue-ray disc adds more behind-the-scenes vignettes and a video game, with Atwell’s commentary accessed visually. The cost will run $29.95 for the conventional DVD and $39.99 for the Blu-ray HD format.

1600×1200.jpgThe next film coming out on DVD this week is the third Milla Jovovich zombie flick “Resident Evil: Extinction,” from Sony Pictures. Portraying Alice once again, Milla continues her ongoing battle with the zombies that are increasing in numbers and abilities exponentially. This time she takes the battle to the last known human survivor’s outpost located in the Nevada desert. Joining her in the fight is Oded Fehr, “Heroes” star Ali Larter, singer Ashanti and Omar Epps.

The standard DVD and Blu-ray HD both feature deleted scenes, a preview of “Resident Evil: Degeneration,” a computer-animated movie based on the game. Director Russell Mulcahy and writer-producer Paul W.S. Anderson give commentary. There is also some other behind-the-scenes stuff, a featurette on the visual effects used in the film and a background on the evolution of the zombies. Conventional DVD runs $28.95 retail and Blu-ray HD will cost you around $38.96.
