Joe Morton Is the Next Guest for Slice of SciFi Show #106

April 22, 2007 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

Actor/director Joe Morton is our special guest on Slice of SciFi Show #106 which airs on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 and one week later on XM Satellite Radio.

Joe broke onto the scifi scene in the critically acclaimed 1984 film “The Brother From Another Planet,” and now stars as scientist/garage mechanic Henry Deacon in another fan and critically praised show on the SCI FI Channel called “Eureka.” The show, currently on hiatus, will return this summer with all new episodes.

Joe Morton first burst on the entertainment radar in the highly controversial and critically acclaimed Broadway play “Hair.” Soon after that he found a spot doing guest appearances in 1970’s TV shows like “Mission Impossible” and soon found himself on a recurring role as Dr. James Foster on the popular long-running soap opera “Search For Tomorrow.” His first major big screen break came when he was offered a small part in the 1979 Al Pacino film “And Justice For All.” Since that time Joe has appeared in over 100 films and television productions, not to mention his starring roles on Broadway, the stage circuit and his directing of many stage plays on the “Great White Way” and throughout the world.

Joe talks with us about his role of Henry on “Eureka” and his directing of plays in New York and throughout the country and, most important to him, his mentoring work with high school students. We also talk about his work on past genre films like “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” and the Johnny Depp/Charlize Theron SF thriller “The Astronaut’s Wife.” Other genre-related pics Joe has starred in include, “Dragonfly,” “Executive Decision” and “Stealth.”

In the News:
Vulcan Calgary, Canada is the trekiest place on the planet and they will be upping their geek status on June 8, 2007 with the introduction of a new $250,000 dollar Trek game and virtual starship world. Evangeline Lilly, John Malkovich and Romain Duris will star together in the SF thriller “Afterwards.” Harvey Weinstein decided to not separate the “Grindhouse” features into two different entries for the rest of the US distrubution, but will probably do so for the international audience and DVD future release.

Movie Talk:
On this week’s show we take a look at two films with very interesting concepts. The first is the Justin Chatwin vehicle called “The Invisible” and the other is Nicolas Cage’s new film called “Next.” Both will be released on Friday, April 27, 2007.

On DVD:

A film called “Dark Corners” will hit store shelves on May 22, 2007 and it tells the story of a young woman whose life becomes a nightmarish place where the line between her idyllic suburban family life and her terrifying subconscious world becomes very blurred. It stars “American Beauty” actress Thora Birch in one of her most riveting roles to date.

Special Segment:
Doug Kress is with us again this week for Slice of Trivia with three new clips to make you scratch your head and go Huh!

TV Talk:
Electronic Arts and Endomel of Europe have teamed up to bring the television viewing audience and gaming community together in such a way that may forever change the way we interact electronically. The new technology called “Virtual Me” becomes a reality this summer.

In the Future:
Brendan Fraser returns for “The Mummy 3” getting a payday for it that will rank him as one of the top entertainment money makers and the great director Ron Howard will be helming a remake of the scifi classic 1970 film “Colossus: The Forbin Project.”
