“Avatar” Casting News

February 15, 2007 By Kyle Nin Leave a Comment

cameron_200.jpgJames Cameron told AintItCool.com that he has set up casting for his long-in-development and highly anticipated “Avatar.”

Here is the list of more-than-capable performers Cameron has brought onboard for this monumental project:

Wes Studi (Seraphim Falls), Sigourney Weaver has been confirmed as Grace, Sam Worthington (Hart’s War) and Zoe Saldana (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl). Also attached to the project are Peter Mensah ( Hidalgo), Joel David Moore (Hatchet, Spiral), C.C.H. Pounder (The Shield) and Laz Alonso (Stomp the Yard).

Avatar takes place in the future where Jake (Worthington), a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na’vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Each actor is “perfectly cast for the part they’re playing,” Cameron said in the phone conversation. He indicated that there was more casting to be done, but that a great deal of it had fallen into place.

Cameron is still eyeing 2009 for the film’s theatrical premiere.
