A Real Scot To Play the Legendary Starfleet Engineer?

January 22, 2007 By Kyle Nin 2 Comments

According to an inside source reporting to the U.K.’s The Sunday Mail, Abrams and Paramount are in talks with James McAvoy (Last King of Scotland, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) to play the grand engineer of the Enterprise NCC-1701 for Star Trek: XI.

This is only the latest in a series of rumors to slink out of the mill since it was announced by Shatner that the storyline would definitely center on a young Spock and Kirk, that he and Nimoy would appear as the older Kirk and Spock, and another rumor stating that both the Christopher Pike and Montgomery Scott characters would also be making a major appearance in the flick.

This is one rumor that fans may hope turns out to be true. McAvoy certainly has the acting chops and would be ideal for the part of the iconic character of “Scotty.”

The article also states that Matt Damon *will* play the role of Kirk. Is that confirmed?

No it is not “confirmed” that Damon will be Kirk, although Damon did recently say that if the script was good and the part was offered him, he would jump at the chance to play Kirk. But, nothing, not even McAvoy is confirmed as far as roles are concerned.
