Kyle’s News Briefs

May 16, 2006 By Kyle Nin 2 Comments

In TV news:

NBC may not be renewing “Surface” to the chagrin of us all, but they haven’t given up totally on some of the genre style intertainment that can draw a scifi audience. The new superhero drama “Heroes” will be moving in to the network’s Monday night 9:00 PM ET/PT schedule hoping to pick up some of the slack left by the departing “Surface.”

“Heroes” stars an ensemble cast headed by ex-“Alias” star Greg Gunberg and centers around a group of people who learn they possess unusual abilities.

Also on NBC Jeff Goldblum’s new supernatural cop series “Raines” has its timeslot set for Sundays at 10 PM ET/PT, but will not debut until January 2007 as a mid-season replacement.

Keep an eye on the EYE Network (CBS). It hasn’t yet announced it, but stong indications are they will be picking up Skeet Ulrich’s “Jericho,” a SF drama about a small town and its inhabitants that is isolated and survives a worldwide nuclear disaster.

In Movie News:

Bryan Singer is reportedly telling Warner Bros. that he is no longer interested in helming the remake of “Logan’s Run.”

The “Fantastic Four: 2” feature flick has been given a release date set for June 15, 2007. The reason for the change of date? Fox wanted to beat DreamWorks to the punch and get Four released before the “Transformers” eats up those teenage bucks burning holes in the kid’s pockets.

In the “SAY IT ISN’T SO” category, Halle Berry has indicated that she is now no longer adverse to putting on the cat suit one more time and hasn’t ruled a possible “Cat Woman: 2.” Halle, you promised us NEVER AGAIN!

In a recent interview Berry stated, “If they seriously said, ‘We want to do another one and here’s how we’re going to make it better because we learned from the mistakes,’ I would because I believe we could make it better.”

Whew, thanks Halle for the loop-hole. Since we all know that Hollywood never learns from their mistakes then we are saved once again. Wise move Halle!

Yay for Jericho! I love the concept and the ensemble cast is stellar. Good work CBS. And if you want to purchase the rights to Miracles and rebroadcast it…….it would be much appreciated.

The video promo for Jericho is at http://www.cbs.com under the fall preview area. It gave me chills — in a good way. The cinematic quality of the film looks top notch.
