Disney has announced that Elton John’s new collaboration with them, an animated takeoff of the classic Shakespere story of Romeo and Juliet, entitled “Gnomeo and Juliet” has stopped production.

No reason has been give by Elton John or the studio for the cessation of production, but all the crew working on the feature have been reassigned to other ongoing animation projects.

Elton and Disney have had a very successful collaboration in the past with their co-production of “The Lion King.” John was to not only write the music and title song for this latest effort about two star-crossed lovers, but he was also slated to produce.

The shutdown appears to be permanent at this time.
