It’s going to be hard to top Jim Carrey, but Steve Carell (40 Year Old Virgin) is going to try to fill the shoes of the comedic giant by starring in the Bruce Almighty sequel entitled Evan Almighty: The Passion of the Ark.

Everyone behind the camera will be the same and Morgan Freeman revives his near perfect God.

In an interview Carell hinted that this may only be the second in a series of Almighty sequels that will be aimed at a completely different story with a new lead in each follow-up film. When he made the statement it was a little hard to tell if he was serious or if his tongue was dryly stuck in his cheek.

In this one Carell returns as anchorman Evan Baxter who gets called upon by God to build a 21st Century ark. From there it’s all loads of fun and singing in the rain.

Production for Evan Almighty is set to begin soon with a scheduled Christmas week 2006 release date.
