LONDON: The SCI FI Channel in the U.K. has announced a range of new acquisitions for next year, led by Steven Spielberg’s Emmy Award-winning mini-series Taken.
Distributed by the BBC, the 10×90 minute episodes will debut February 4 at 9 p.m. It tells the stories of three families through fifty years of alien encounters from World War II to the present day.
The British cable and satellite channel, owned by NBC Universal, also picked up 1980s production V-The Mini Series, from Warner Bros., and several feature films, among them ET, Roswell, Them and Deep Evil. The channel also opted for some documentary fare including Watch the Skies, The Roswell Incident and A Very British UFO Hoax.
“SCI FI’s latest acquisitions are further evidence of our commitment to screening the best entertainment the genre has to offer,” said Jon Farrar, the programming director at SCI FI. “Both Taken and V were landmark shows of their time and with support from among others ET and documentaries such as The Roswell Incident, SCI FI will be flying the flag for all things alien throughout the month of February and beyond.”
