Space Punk’d

December 5, 2005 By S. K. Sloan Leave a Comment

Rumor has it that the ABC Network in the US is sniffing around the UK in order to buy out the rights to a “reality” program there and bring a similar format to an American audience.

In the UK, there is a new ‘reality TV’ show starting on Wednesday, December 7th called Space Cadets, where 4 members of the public are going to become the first ever televised space tourists. They will be taking off from Russia to orbit the earth for 5 days and then return.

The clincher? It’s actually all a fake. They’re not even going to be in Russia. The question is, will any of them realise they’re being had?

According to The Guardian, the program has gone to great lengths to fish in the contestants even going so far as to use the Space Shuttle set and props from the Space Cowboy movie. It’s a massive task, and it will be interesting to see if they manage to pull it off.

In the UK it can be seen at 9pm starting Wednesday on Ch4, and will run for 5 nights.

Kevin asks, “The real question that remains however, is that if ABC really is scoping out this show; once the cat is out of the bag, how will they be able to fool people once it’s already been done once?”

Trust me Kevin, most US viewers don’t have a clue as to what is happening on overseas television and they should be easy pickins’.

I want to thank Kevin for this very interesting Story.
