Hollywood has a record setting weekend with four movies taking in more than $20 million each at the box-office.
Leading the way was the romantic comedy The Vow with $41.7 million in ticket sales.
Next up was Safe House, an action film with Denzel Washington. The movie opened with $39.7 million in ticket sales.
Third place went to Journey 2: Mysterious Island. With $27.6 million, the 3-D epic edged out the re-release of Star Wars, Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 3-D. It opened with $23 million.
The low-budget horror film Chronicle rounded out the top five with $12.3 million.
The strong weekend continued 2012’s winning streak. Revenues are up 19% over the same time frame last year, while attendance has surged 22% ahead of 2011’s pace.
