Another weekend, another win for Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part One.
The vampire romance flick sucked in $16.9 million in its third weekend, good enough to take the top spot at the box office.
In second with The Muppets with $11.2 million, which lifted its two-week total to $56.1 million.
Hugo, Martin Scorsese’s first family film and first in 3-D, continues its strong run in limited release. The movie was third with $7.6 million in 1,840 theaters, about half the distribution of most big-screen movies. The picture has earned $25.2 million in 10 days.
The animated holiday cartoon Arthur Christmas was fourth with $7.4 million, followed by Happy Feet Two with $6 million, which brought its overall revenue to $51.8 million.
The anemic weekend did little for Hollywood’s bottom line. Revenue remained off 4% from the same period last year, and attendance is down 5%, according to Hollywood.com.
