Lots of news coming out of San Diego this week at this year’s Comic Con which has proven to be very successful even if a few major commercial studios have opted out. By doing so many are saying the good ole’ feelings the Con use to leave its participants is noticibly back this time around.
Now to some of the news coming out of the Con this weekend:
The talks surrounding Russell Crowe to portray Jor-El in the upcoming Superman flick titled “Man of Steel” have moved into the serious business phase. The big question is will he grap top billing for his few minutes of camera time like the legendary Marlon Brando did in the 1970’s release?
“Futurama” has been granted a greater future by getting at least two more new seasons according to executive producer David X. Cohen. It can be seen on Comedy Central has garnered an Emmy nomination. That made the execs look twice at its most successful animated workhorse.
Director Steven Spielberg let it fly that he will be revisiting the Jurassic Park franchise in a couple of years. However most of his talk at the Con dealt with his latest Peter Jackson co-op project, “The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn.” He thrilled the crowd with news on his other upcoming films “Robopocalypse,” his highly anticipated bio-pic “Lincoln” and “War Horse.”
Henry Cavill (“The Tudors”), and the newest Man of Steel brought the Con into the Web age by participating in a SDCC Live Blogging Panel where he discussed at length his latest filming project titled “The Immortals.” And yes, he did talk a bit about “Superman: Man of Steel” too. Check out our good friends at Cinema Blend for the full text of the blogging event.
Francis Ford Coppola made his first appearance in nearly 20 years to the Con and sat in on the panel for his return to the horror genre with the movie “Twixt,” which stars Val Kilmer, young upcomer Elle Fanning and the great Bruce Dern.
NBC’s “Grimm” was given its first major screening at SDCC. The show will center on a homicide detective who learns that he comes from a long line of hunters of supernatural beings and creatures (Can anyone say “Sanctuary”?). He then takes up the mantle. David Guintoli will star as the title character Detective Nick Burkhardt. It begins airing this fall.
Director Steven Spielberg’s feature film “Cowboys and Aliens” starring Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde got its major premiere at Comic Con.
Finally, fans who attended were rewarded with their first look at Kristen Stewart as a well armored Snow White for Universal’s Damsel turned Warrior in “Snow White and the Huntsman.” [See the Featured Image courtesy of Universal]

John Favreau directed cowboys and aliens, not spielberg.
Sam Sloan says
Yes, Jon Favreau did direct, but it is Spielberg’s baby (along with Ron Howard, et. al.) and I said director Steven Spielberg, not as the director of the movie, but simply one of his many job titles.
