“Star Wars” 3-D Remastering May Be Cut Short

“Star Wars” 3-D Remastering May Be Cut Short

June 15, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

Turns out we may only get Jar-Jar in 3-D.

LucasFilm producer Rick McCallum says that while the original plan was to convert all six Star Wars films into 3-D, the project may be cut short and only apply to one movie.  And that movie is Star Wars: Episode I– The Phantom Menance.

During an interview with a website called Ceskapozice.cz, McCallum said that interest in 3-D version of the films isn’t as high as they anticipated and that instead of remastering all six, LucasFilm has decided to remaster the films one at a time and see what happens.  If the demand is there for the entire series to be remastered in 3-D, they’ll all get the treatment.  If it’s not there, they’ll stop after the first installment.

McCullum says the films will be remastered and released in episodic order.

It seems that the best way to get the fanbase excited would be to go in chronological order and remaster A New Hope in 3-D first.   Audiences would probably be a bit more excited about seeing the original (and still the best) trilogy on the big-screen again rather than the inferior prequels.

      3D is fine .. it’s how it’s used that’s crap .. and “converting” a 2D film into 3D is SUPER CRAP.

So, in a grand effort to make it look like Lucas isn’t completely nuts, they’re doing the worst of the 6, and if there isn’t “enough interest” they won’t do the rest.

I can live with that. I’ll start the bandwagon right now. I have ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in seeing Phantom Menace again. Join me in apathy, won’t you?

I say we convert them all into black and white and put them out that way.

I say we all pretend that the prequels never happened, recut the original trilogy by putting back the way it should be (You know, Han shoots first, No emo boy at the end of Jedi… The original Ewok music stuff like that.) and then release it. Hmmm, I might actually go see it then, but then I’m just a fan, what do I know. Other then I know he gets no more money for me for this franchise that is.
