Duchovny Says Third “X-Files” Script Being Written

November 8, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

Actor David Duchovny says that a third installment in the “X-Files” movie franchise is being written and that, so far, all the parties involved are happy with the results.

Duchovny tells the French magazine TVMag that the next installment has been penned and that those involved are just waiting for 20th Century Fox to give the greenlight.

Whether or not that happens remains to be seen. The last “X-Files” movie did $70 million at the box-office. Not bad, but not exactly blockbuster numbers either.

At the time “I Want to Believe” came out, series creator Chris Carter said that he wanted to complete a trilogy of movies based on the once-popular television series and that a third installment would deal with some left-over issues involving the show’s mythology and the upcoming alien invasion date of 2012. (If you watched the show, you may recall that 2012 was when the aliens were supposed to come and….well, I’m not sure what.)

Whether or not Fox signs off on the movie remains to be seen.

Yesterday Duchovny’s PR firm denied he confirmed the script. 🙁

Obviously, you didn’t watch the show. On December 23, 2012, the aliens are supposed to come and colonize the planet. They’ll use the humans as a slave race … well, the ones they keep alive, anyway.

Sometimes it’s hard to convey sarcasm on-line…this is clearly such a case. 🙂

David’s rep did not deny that he confirmed a script, she denied that there was an official script. Also, Frank Spotnitz who co-wrote the second movie, stated that he could neither confirm nor deny the story but fans should not give up.
