This actually is the #277 Voicemail Show… the people responsible for the previous lack of attention to detail in the credits have been sacked…
We do want to hear your comments and feedback… No, really, we do! Pay no attention to how much Mike grumbles about them — you know, that guy sitting in the dark corner with all of the blinky lights, the knobs and the scotch.
This week, Mike, Brian and Tim respond to your questions and comments, and remember, there could be SPOILERS at any moment!

I wrote before with the opinion Fox may have done us a favor by limiting FireFly’s run.
Basically they did not give Whedon the chance to go weird (weirder) and screw it up. We may not have ended up with a polished gem, but one to be treasured. Thanks Fox.
Addendum: Universal then felt the need to give Whedon the chance to rob us of a couple of beloved characters. Curse you, Universal!!!

As far as reality shows, I’d start watching if the colonist killed one of their faux attackers and feasted on his flesh.
Really, can anyone forget they are on a show? Do we think these guys would not have fashioned weapons to protect themselves?
And I imagine with that nice a compound up for grab the marauders would not have limited themselves to just beating them up.
No matter how “real” it gets, one would have to purposefully forget that it is not real. I, for one, can’t do it. And I suspect at least some of the viewers are tuning in to see how far they will carry the pretense. That’s why I’m thinking the “experiment” will end when someone gets seriously hurt or killed.

80’s movie in question: could it have been “Willow?” It had the three headed worm-like creature during a battle scene … but it wasn’t really in a moat …?
And YES! – the Banshee in “Darby O’Gill” totally freaked me out too.

BB – granted. I was merely carrying on with the semi-discussion regarding why some people (like me) won’t watch it.
I might watch a movie about it, where stuff could still be realistically simulated. Discovery channel does this sometimes (Walking With Dinosaurs). That gives you an extrapolated glimpse on what it might have been like. In that case I also know it’s not real, but I’m learning something anyway, and it’s not presented the same way as The Colony.
For me, noo matter how “realistic” a reality show is, it’s hard to forget it is not real. And there will always be moments where you will be reminded of that.
Now, if one is into reality shows to begin with, then the amount of realism might be a factor that enhances their enjoyment. Again, not for me, but I can understand why some might find it interesting. Now, if it were in 3-D . . .

EJ – Well it IS supposed to be entertainment after all… the only way to make it “real” is to have the circumstances really happen. I, for one, don’t really want to be wiped out by a superflu, nuclear terror or rabid furries. 😉
So there really isn’t any way to TRULY have a real show because that is called… life.
