Gillen Joins “Thrones”

Gillen Joins “Thrones”

July 13, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Actor Aidan Gillen has signed on to play the scheming Littlefinger for the upcoming HBO series, “A Game of Thrones.”

Littlefinger is an adviser to King Robert who manipulates those in power to fit his own agenda.

Gillen is familiar to HBO viewers as Councilman Thomas ‘Tommy’ Carcetti on the network’s “The Wire.”

The series will not have a major presence at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con, though a trailer for the series will be shown during the “True Blood” panel. That’s because the series is currently re-shooting some scenes and tweaking things in the pilot.

However, that doesn’t meant that “Thrones” will be delayed. HBO says the series is still on target to debut next spring.

This is welcome news. I loved him on The Wire. Definitely has the ability to seem sympathetic and harmless while at the same time being neither of the two. I am really looking forward to this. The pieces are definitely coming together.
