“Seeker” Fans Raise Close to $10,000 To Save Show

May 8, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

Fans of “Legend of the Seeker” love their show and aren’t willing to give it up without a fight.

Last week, we brought you news that Save Our Seeker was working to raise funds for an ad in Variety.   The group has blown past its initial fund-raising goal and is closing in on $10,000 raised for the campaign.  Some of the funds were used to print the ad in Variety and now the group is considering placing an ad in the trade paper, the Hollywood Reporter.

The Variety ad ran Friday and appears below.

You can keep up with all most up-to-date information on the campaign or contribute at the Save Our Seeker web site.

I got to tell you! If they did not Zena-fy this show it would have been great! It sucks the way it is! I am glad that it is going off the air. I hope that someone makes this into a real movie or Mini-Series someday as the books are awesome. This show does not do justice for the books. I feel bad for Terry Goodkind as they quickly dismissed him in the first season and went their own way. I would love to see a movie within the Michael Bay franchise or someone that can do this story justice. Maybe even Peter Jackson. I would keep the current Kaylan actress but Richard has to be someone that is much taller and a better actor. The rest of the cast should be re-cast as well. Zed is okay but not strong enough. I did not think the series would last this long. Let’s re-boot this quickly into a film. Read the books and you will understand why I say this. I am reading the series for a second time. That is how much I liked the books.

I haven’t read the books but my brother and mother have. When it first came on they also complained that it didn’t come close to the books. But while that is true, I reminded them of two things. First, there is so little quality F&SF on TV we should be trying to keep good shows, like this one, on the air. Second, they should watch the show as its own story. Don’t think of it as a show directly connected to the books. Think of it independent of them, as if it were a different story. Once they started doing that they found the series enjoyable and we all watch it now.

No matter how great the F/X or acting or directing, no movie or TV show is likely ever to be as good as the book(s). So we shouldn’t even try to compare them. It’s all apples and oranges.

For real… let this dog die already. Some shows are just dead on arrival.

Whether you like the show or not this is an awesome accomplishment, and will be even more so if it works. Yes, the show is not a perfect adaptation of the book, and while I like the books, I don’t think they would work as a weekly TV show, as a TV movie sure, but not as a weekly action series. I like the show, and the books for what they are, and hope this tactic keeps the show on the air, if for no other reason then if it works, it can be used save other on the bubble shows, and maybe resurrect shows killed before their time…

heh. People really never did read what Terry Goodkind said about the series and how his books wouldn’t translate well to any medium. Tsk…tsk.

I, for one, hope it manages to come back.

I for one love the show and where they have gone with the story.
