New Animated Spider-Man Series Coming

New Animated Spider-Man Series Coming

April 15, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

The merger of Disney and Marvel will give fans a new animated take on everyone’s favorite wall-crawler in 2011.

SciFi Squad reports that “Ultimate Spider-Man” is headed to Disney XD.  The new animated series will take the title from the popular reboot comic book series but probably will not follow any of the story arcs created by the comic book.  The series, penned by Brian Michael Bendis, has won fan and critical praise for its update and different take on the Spider-Man mythology.

“Ultimate Spider-Man will be a unique journey exploring our favorite web-slinger as he teams up with other fan favorite Marvel Super Heroes in never before seen stories with a new life filled with great challenges, new friends, intense action and character growth,” said Eric S. Rollman, the president of Marvel Animation.

Unfortunately, this could mean that we won’t see any more of the wonderful “Spectacular Spider-Man” which was airing its second season on Disney XD.

From what I understand “Spectacular Spiderman” is finished. However, this new animated series does not make any sense because it sounds like it is going to do what “Spectacular Spiderman” was doing brilliantly!

Yeah. Sounds like a brilliantly unthought out idea at first glance. Spectacular Spiderman has a great visual style, good plots, and pretty mush sets the storey in the teen spidey ultimate univers etc. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” has been replaced with “if it ain’t tied in with the movie franchise don’t continue with it.” Obviously its all about spin…

I can understand from a business perspective why they made this move. This way they have less clash with the rights. They can just start clean. However, SS was brilliant and I’ll miss it. Especially since SS was sort of taking queues from Ultimate SM anyway.
