I will give the correct answer after the poll officially closes.

Is this refering just to The Hulk, or does it include Bruce Banner?

  3. Joseph says

Wonder if it’s a trick question. Technically, if you’re talking about just the Hulk, only 1 actor (Lour Ferrigno) has portrayed the Hulk. If i’m not mistaken, the Hulk was CGI in the last two movies, so no actor was involved. Otherwise, if you’re including Banner, I’d say 4.

  4. Joseph says

    March 15, 2010 at 5:11 pm

Oops, that would be Lou, not Lour.

  5. ObiWanLee says

    March 15, 2010 at 5:23 pm

But surely Bruce Banner is the hulk, it’s still his body and mind, so that would make it four:

    Bill Bixby & Lou Ferringo
    Eric Bana & CGI
    Edward Norton & CGI

Don’t forget the animated Hulks. Voice actors are actors too.

Well, if you count animated, I don’t think the numbers go high enough. I am with ObiWanLee that it is four counting Bill Bixby.

  8. Ben Ragunton says

    March 16, 2010 at 2:21 pm

Technically only 1 person played the Hulk. However you could expand that number to four.

Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno as Bruce Banner/Hulk (count that as 2)
    Eric Bana
    Edward Norton

    There’s your 4.

  9. KG from DC says

I see why people are saying four, but technically Bill Bixby never played the Hulk, just David Banner. So it stands at 3 if you want to be objective versus subjective.

So is Clark Kent really Superman? Do the stunt persons count? Just using an allegory.

  11. Rick Astley says

Worst. Poll. Ever. The question is unclear as indicated by the statements above, and it feels like the pollster just needed something to sate the ignorant masses. How about something relevant to current discussions, like whether Avatar deserved a best picture Oscar? It’s not a slow news week, so I can’t imagine why this poll was chosen over all else.

By my counting, only live action, there’s 3: Hulk TV Show (Ferrigno), Hulk (Bana) and The Incredible Hulk (Norton).

But, if you count Hulk Vs, you have Fred Tatasciore as Hulk in that and I believe also in The Avengers Animated films and Rick Wasserman from Planet Hulk. That would make 5.

I have not seen the Spider-Man Cartoons, so I don’t know if Hulk made an appearance.

  13. Sam says

    March 21, 2010 at 2:37 pm

    Correct Answer: ONE

Only one actor has portrayed the Hulk – Mr. Lou Ferrigno – see Brian’s recent video interview with Lou in our interview section of this website.

Relevance of this Poll (Quiz)? Very:
As stated – Brian just did an interview with the only actor to ever actually play the Hulk. Hulk is back on the big screen, and will be making future cameo appearances in upcoming Marvel movie features.

Bill Bixby, Eric Bana and Edward Norton only portrayed Bruce Banner. All other versions (excluding Ferrigno’s) were CGI effects or animation. Voice acting is not the same as actually portraying a character — it is voicing a character- there is a difference.

  14. KG from DC says

    March 22, 2010 at 5:06 pm

On that note. Worst poll ever.

It *was* more of a pop quiz than a poll. Pop Quizzes are hard on the web because everyone will use Google to find the answer. I wonder if we could have live pop quizzes on nights we record the voicemail show, and have people call in live with an answer…

  15. Lejon from Chandler says

    Sam,

I hate to be a stickler, but Ang Lee portrayed the Hulk.

Granted, it was just the motion capture stuff, but all the motions were captured from his live performance.

  16. Clay says

    April 20, 2010 at 10:50 pm

Don’t forget The best potrayal of the Hulk by the late grate John Belushi

    That makes 4

  17. tvscifi says

Not true that Bill Bixby never played the Hulk, there were a couple of episodes where he was “stuck” in transition, so that should count as at least half a Hulk.

Also, I seem to remember a failed TV pilot pre Bixby, but I had a black & white TV at the time, so it might have been Smurfs.
