Colombus Knows Nothing About “Gremlins 3”

Colombus Knows Nothing About “Gremlins 3”

February 8, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

A couple of weeks ago, we brought you news on Slice of SciFi about a proposed third installment in the “Gremlins” franchise.

Apparently news of a new “Gremlins” came as just that to one of the creators of the series, writer Christopher Columbus.

“I spoke to Steven Spielberg a couple days ago and said, ‘You know, I’ve been reading on the internet about this ‘Gremlins 3D’ and no one’s approached him either, so I don’t know if that’s really true,” Columbus says.

And if the movie should get made, Columbus thinks that having the Gremlins recreated using CGI would not be a good move.

“I think it’s impossible to recreate in a CGI environment. I think it will inevitably lose some of its charm,” he adds. “Those are edgy Muppets in a sense and you don’t want to lose that sense of anarchy that those gremlins had, because behind the scenes are 25 puppeteers making them to come to life.”

I hear you loud and clear Chris but not only CGI can ruin the image of the gremlins and little heroic Gizmo it’s that horrid 3D. Why can’t we have a regular standard verison of the 3rd and final installment on the silver screen like the past two gremlins films with puppets and animatronics. 3D and CGI forget it!

Gremlins in 3D may not be that bad… I’m worried about it in the wrong hands, but in the right hands it may work.

I totally agree that CGI Gremlins would kill it and make it far too much like the new TMNT that came out recently. All of the nostalgia of the original was lost and with it most of its audience.
