Damon Was Up for Dent in “Dark Knight”

Damon Was Up for Dent in “Dark Knight”

December 10, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

mattdamonLast summer while actor Heath Ledger was winning rave reviews for his performance as the Joker in “The Dark Knight,” another actor was also winning over critics and fans.   The actor was Aaron Eckhart who played the role of Harvey Dent, who was transformed into Two-Face during the movie’s events.

But here’s a what if for you–what if the role were played instead by Matt Damon?

Damon recently revealed to MTV News that he was in the running for the role, but that he had to pass due to a scheduling conflict.

“I never spoke to Chris Nolan. I’m a big Chris Nolan fan, but I never spoke to him,” Damon said.

He went on to say that he didn’t think anyone else but Eckhart could have brought the role to life.

“Look, Aaron is a great actor, so the movie didn’t suffer for it,” said Damon. “Every now and then you get one and you can’t do it.”

He’s too pretty to be Two-Face!

“Look, Aaron is a great actor, so the movie didn’t suffer for it”

This doesn’t sound like a compliment, more like:

“Look, Aaron is a great actor, almost as great as me, so the movie didn’t suffer for it,”

I really like Matt Damon, but Arron Eckhart OWNED that role. Having read the comics, seen the cartoons, and all the other movies, I can honestly say that I think that Dark Knight had by a wide margin the best telling of the Harvey Dent/Two-Face arc to date.

Aaron Eckhart was phenomenal as Two-Face\Harvey Dent, but I think Damon would have added a different dimension to the role. One thing Damon would have added to the role was the cold menace of Two-Face. Less screaming and more piercing stares. Mmmaaattt Dammmmmooonnnn!

Wow, Nolan dodged a bullet on that one.
Sure, Damon’s a good actor but he is in no way right to play Two-Face. Eckhart added a maturity to Dent that Damon could never have.
