“Flash Forward” Pushed to March

December 7, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

Looks like we won’t just be waiting until March for “V” to come back on ABC.

“Flash Forward” producer David S. Goyer told EW last week that after discussions with the network, the series won’t return with new episodes until March of next year.   That’s different than the originally announced plan of returning in January.

Goyer said that the move is one that will help the show, given its serialized nature.

“To be brutally honest, our programming schedule in January was going to be awful. We were going to be off for four or five weeks [through December and into January], then back on for two weeks, then off for two weeks because of the Olympics, then back on four weeks, off for two weeks again, back on three, off for two again,” Goyer says. “Our first 10 episodes had one preemption; our last 13-episode arc was going to have four. I just think when we saw that, the studio and the network and all the producers looked at each other and said, “This is crazy.” We’d rather bite the bullet, come back in March, and air all 13 episodes consecutively without preemptions.”

It appears most of the major networks are giving NBC a wide berth when it comes to the Winter Olympics in February.

Did network execs forget about the concept of counter programming?

Until I read this article, I didnt know why “V” was on hold until March.

I dont like the idea of waiting 3 months for more episodes, but I heard that ABC will be reshowing the previous episodes of “V” which will make it ok.

I have all the previous episodes of Flash Forward on my DVR, so at least I’ll be able to refamiliarize myself with the story line.

They appear not to have taken any lessons from Jericho’s disasterous hiatus.

Torsh–I’m afraid you lost me. What do “fan boys” have to do with anything? And, if your a fan of the show, don’t stop watching it. That would be counterproductive. I mean, I have to wait until March for V, and Fringe, but nothing would be accomplished by not watching it.

Then again, I am not really the biggest fan of Flash Forward.

Well, while it’s kind of frustrating, their reasoning is fairly sound. Although, yeah, there has been a trend away from networks even trying to compete with certain things. It used to be just events like the Superbowl, but now they’ve become more cautious about programming against weekly content like American Idol.

I have to admit, I’m probably not helping the cause. I tend to watch Bones and Fringe on Thursdays every week, but prefer to watch FlashForward several episodes at a time on Hulu. It’s one of those shows I have to be in the right mood for.
