Fox Pulls “Fringe” From February Sweeps

December 1, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 12 Comments

Fox has decided to bench “Fringe” for the upcoming February sweeps according to the Futon Critic.

In its place will be the long in development series, “Past Life” which recently had its season order reduced from 13 episodes to seven.

“Fringe” has been struggling in its move to Thursdays, taking on powerhouse line-ups from ABC and CBS. However, DVR numbers have been good and bumped the show up in the ratings.

It may or may not be enough for Fox, who says they’re putting the show on hiatus but promise an uninterrupted run of episodes to end the season beginning in April.

Whether this is a good news or bad news, we’ll leave up to you to decide….

Frackin’ Fox. First Dollhouse gets the no-sweeps treatment, now Fringe?

Why did they move it to Thursday anyway. Dumbshits.

Moving Fringe to Thursday was a dumb move. They should have built around dominating Tuesdays. There is not a worse network than FOX

Well, if they moved it back to Tuesday, then it would be on at the same time as “Lost”. Maybe they don’t want to do that.

It’s not that surprising – sweeps are messed up this year because of the Olympics. Past Life is pretty much being served up as a sacrificial lamb for them. They’re saving Fringe for when people will actually be watching their network. Fringe will be back, when CSI and Grey’s are in the middle of 2 months of repeats.

I believe Fox has said that they will be moving Glee to Tuesday when it comes back in the spring so we may have to hope for a move to Fridays where they won’t expect too much out of the ratings. I hear there will be an opening at 9pm on Fridays after 1/22. 😉

I think the fact that they aren’t putting up Fringe aganist the Olympics should be considered a good thing. A very good thing. Can’t say the same for Past Life though. Hopefully, Fox is smart enough to move Fringe to Monday or Wednesdays next season. The only reason it has such low ratings is because it’s has so much competition that night. And it’s seems Fringe’s DVR numbers seem to support this.

The words “putting the show on hiatus” and “promise an uninterrupted run of episodes” seem strangely at odds to me for some reason. 🙂

They move a show around. Switch the days and times it’s shown. Have long (multiple) eradicate gaps between episodes. The only way *to* watch it is on the DVR.
