Roddenberry Added To Television Hall of Fame

Roddenberry Added To Television Hall of Fame

November 11, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

gene_roddenberryThe man behind the creation of one of the most iconic television and movie franchises of all-time will be joining the Television Hall of Fame early next year.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gene Roddenberry will be added along with Candice Bergen, Charles Lisanby, Don Pardo,  Tom and Dick Smothers and Bob Stewart.  The ceremony will be held on January 20.

“This year’s inductees have challenged and shaped popular culture, changed television for the better and entertained us royally while doing so,” TV Academy Chairman-CEO John Shaffner said.

The inductees were selected by a Hall of Fame selection committee from submissions from TV Academy members and industry representatives.

“These individuals have each made extraordinary and lasting contributions that have meant so much to multiple generations of television viewers,” Itkin said. “Their work will endure for decades to come.”

Gene Roddenberry’s works have always tended to be the most entertaining and enjoyable for me, and apparently for lots of other people as well. It is good to see him finally get this kind of recognition.

…You mean he wasn’t already? Who the heck is to blame for that glaring oversight? I can maybe understand the rest of this year’s inductees, since most of them are still alive, but Roddenberry’s been dead for almost 20 years. Well, congratulations to the Great Bird at last.
