Goyer Talks About “Ghost Rider 2”

Goyer Talks About “Ghost Rider 2”

November 5, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

ghostriderWhen “Ghost Rider” hit theaters last year and wrangled up a huge pile of cash at the box-office, you knew a sequel was inevitable.

As the sequel began to slowly move towards become a reality, some fans were hoping that the series might reboot itself instead of just being a follow-up to the original film.

It appears that fans may be (sort of) getting their wish.

Writer David Goyer, who was recently tapped to write the sequel, says that the film won’t be an out and out reboot, but will instead do for “Ghost Rider” what “Casino Royale” did for James Bond.

“It’s not exactly a reboot,” Goyer tells MTV News. “I hate to say it’s more realistic, because he’s got a flaming skull for a head, but it’s a bit more stripped down and darker. It’s definitely changing tone.”

“This story picks up eight years after the first film,” said Goyer. “You don’t have to have seen the first film. It doesn’t contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we’re pretending that our audience hasn’t seen the first film. It’s as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later—he’s just in a much darker, existential place.”

Goyer also noted that the script is being toned down a bit to try and go after a PG-13 rating. Beyond that, the writer wouldn’t delve into many specific details about the film but added, “”My script is out there on the Internet. We’re not changing much from it. It’ll be significantly the same script.”

Production on “Ghost Rider 2” begins next year.

Will it still be Nicholas Cage? The first one wasn’t great, but it wasn’t terrible either.

I am unable to watch anything with Mr. Cage anymore. Four words keep going though my mind over and over whenever I see him.

“How’d it get burned? How’d it get burned???”

Maybe they can combine Ghost Rider with the Wickerman.

From what I read, Cage will return for the second installment.
