Fillion Wants To Star in “Greatest American Hero”

Fillion Wants To Star in “Greatest American Hero”

October 29, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 7 Comments

greatestIf you’re a child of the 80’s, you probably remember the television series “The Greatest American Hero.”

The show centered on a teacher, Ralph Hinkley, who was given a super suit by space aliens and then promptly lost the instruction manual.  The series followed Ralph’s exploits as he tried to defeat various villians with the help of a government operative and his girlfriend (and later fiancee).

The original version of Ralph was played by actor William Katt, who has appeared on several episodes of Slice of SciFi.

And with Hollywood currently raiding every possible television property for the big-screen treatment, we knew it was only a matter of time before they got to “Hero.”  The movie version has long been in development and while nothing is confirmed casting wise, we do have an interesting tid bit about who would like to play the lead in the movie.

Captain Tightpants himself, Nathan Fillion.

“There are so many superheroes out there, I feel like there’s none left. But there is one I think I could handle, and that’s a redo of The Greatest American Hero,” Fillion told IFC. “I’d say it’s largely the same idea, the same story. But the suit would be able to change and morph into whatever it is you needed him to do. So it could become armor, a scuba suit – you could do that stuff.”

How cool would it be to see Fillion take on this role? As a kid who grew up watching the show, I think it’d be great to see Fillion as Ralph.

Nathan is a great actor but I just can’t see it, still I’ve been wrong ( once ) before.

Forgive me, but this is right in Nathan Fillion’s wheelhouse. That sort of aloof, absent-minded, almost slapstick hero? He could do that at the drop of a hat.

This I’d love to see. Nathan can bring it.

I’m a big fan of TGAH and Nathan Fillion would be perfect in that role!

I’ve only seen him in the Serenity series so I’m not sure how he’d do. But I definitely still see hinkley as a bit on the thin, like really think side and Nathan seems a bit too ‘built’. And I’d hate to seem him try to thin up for the role cause he looks great how he is right now.
