Raimi Comments on Possible “Spidey 4” Villain(s)

October 13, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 1 Comment

In a recent MTV poll, fans chose Spider-Man’s adversary The Lizard as the most-wanted villain for the upcoming “Spider-Man 4.”   Popular modern villain Carnage took second place.

MTV then contacted director Sam Raimi with the results and to try and get some cofirmation of who the villain could be in the upcoming film.

“I love the Lizard,” Raimi replied. “There’s a great story there in the Marvel comic books about Dr. Connors. I’m less familiar with Carnage.”

“I’m not allowed to say at this point,” Raimi said, before disclosing what he was allowed to say.

“What we’re trying to do right now is really understand the journey Peter is going to go on this time and have the villain maybe be a counter to that growth, something that he has to overcome.  Or maybe he has to grow in a way to overcome the villain, because there always seem to be stories of coming of age, of a young man growing up and learning things about life, so once we are identifying the exact movement that Peter has to grow to, I think the villain—and we’re trying this right now; we’re trying to choose a villain based on who would be the proper counter to that growth, so we really have dramatic conflict.”

Raimi added: “Everyone your readers—the guys who check out your website—mentioned are excellent characters.”

Hmmm very interesting… I would love to see Peter Parker grow into a father. Follow the Spider Girl story. Maybe have Mary Jane and Peter have a baby…said baby would become Spider Girl. * Turns toward kitchen door *
