BBC Unveils New “Doctor Who” Logo

BBC Unveils New “Doctor Who” Logo

October 6, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 16 Comments

When “Doctor Who” returns next year, it will be with a new lead actor, a new companion and a new production team.

And, it appears, with a new logo.

The BBC unveiled the new look for the “Doctor Who” logo yesterday. This new logo replaces the one that had been in use for the past four seasons.

This isn’t the first time the logo for the series has changed.

And thanks to the power of YouTube, you can check out the BBC’s promotional video with the new logo.

I think I like it, because of the aged nature of the font, dunno about the tardis abbreviated thing. My criticism is the colour, everything nowadays is always metalic or blue, this is metalic AND blue. Where’s the turquiose, rainbow, owt that makes it shocking.

OK. Sleek…cool…moderne. I like the TARDIS-y “DW” with the light on top.
    I think I kinda like it…And I’d mos’ definitely want that t-shirt.

Looks like more proof that they are trying to move away from the police box. I expect this to be a transition logo that will move to the new Tardis. (Whatever that will be)

This should be an interesting season.

Yes, it will take some getting used to, but I like it.

As I’ve said many times before when it comes to Dr Who, the show is built around change.

Seems like it’s missing something to me…. boring…. needs to pull me in – not pushes me away

When Steven Moffat said they were basing their new design around the old series, I thought they meant the super sixties or smashing seventies. Not the endless eighties. And for me that is just too 80s

Yes change is good, but still.. i can’t get excited by this new logo.
On the other hand it is just the logo, as long as the show is good i really don’t care that much.

I think a lot of it will depend on the new working of the theme. I’m excited about that and that we get the return of the Doctor’s face in the opening credits.

It is MUCH better than that orange thing they brought out in 2004. I never liked that branding and it is on everything. Glad to see that put to rest finally.

Perhaps it is just my mixed up mind but when I see “DW” I think of DarkWing Duck (When there’s trouble, you call DW!) That being said, when they launched (well re-launched) the Doctor in 2004, they were trying to identify an audience. Now that they know that it (their audience) spans all age groups, I think they may be trying to ‘grow up’ the Doctor, from the grandfatherly or strange uncle type, to the older brother/swashbuckling best friend/boy friend type.

Huh. It’s… okay. I mean, the words are fine, but the “DW” tardis-y part is rather lame. Hadn’t realized how attached I’d gotten to the orange lozenge logo, but I think I’m going to miss it a little. Oh well. Onward.

They might have to do a new intro to go with the new logo
    or something
should really get temporarily more funding and make a doctor who movie!

I really quite like it. It’s quite clever with the ‘DW’ TARDIS bit, in my opinion.
But what’s this about a new TARDIS? This is the first I’m hearing of it, and if they do bring in a new one I’ll be pissed. Not so much if it’s just a redecorating of the inside, but if they get rid of the Police Box I’ll shoot myself. A logo is one thing, but the Man with the Blue Box has popped up at various turning points in history, it just wouldn’t be right to turn up one day in a new device.
