“Fantastic Four” Reboot Happening

“Fantastic Four” Reboot Happening

September 1, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 14 Comments

A couple of months ago, we brought you news that 20th Century Fox was considering a reboot of the “Fantastic Four” franchise after just two movies.N

Now, the reboot is on at Fox.

Variety reports that 20th Century Fox has hired Akiva Goldsman to executive produce a reboot of the franchise from a script by “Heroes” and “Green Lantern” writer, Michael Green.

There’s no word yet on if the original cast from the first two films would be brought back or recast entirely.  There is also no word yet on if 20th Century Fox would make us sit through the origin story of the “Fantastic Four” again.

The reboot could be the first of several coming for popular Marvel characters.

It was reported that after “Spider-Man 4” finishes production that Columbia is considering a reboot of that franchise.

There should be a time restriction on reboots. Something like “Thou shalt not reboot a franchise until 10 years have passed from the release of the most recent feature/episode”

It’s probably one of the commandments on the tablet that broke according to Mel Brooks’ History of the World 🙂

If they are gonna just start rebooting so quickly, why should we go see any of these movies. I probably wont go see a reboot of FF, I liked the first two, yes it had issues, but I did like them. Is xmen next? terminator? Oh, I know, harry potter or narnia.

Aren’t there about 40 years of Fantastic Four stories to tell?

Why must there be a reboot. If you want to re-cast the roles, then do it. Its not necessary to reboot a franchise just to get a new cast.

It seems they’re rebooting every movie in the past 5 years.

Why don’t they try something new, or very, very old, or how about an original idea.

Ugh, Megan Fox as Sue? I’d rather keep Jessica “Couldn’t Play Herself in a BioPic” Alba. Honestly, I’m not sure they need to re-boot FF. Just replace Jessica Alba with someone, you know, good, and keep the franchise going. At the very least keep Chiklis and Evans. They had great on-screen chemistry as Ben and Johnny. They were the best part of both movies frankly.

I have no doubt that MEgan Fox will be in every reboot for the next 10 years. 🙂

Wow, I was hoping that this would happen at some point in the future but so soon is a shock. A good shock though, I just hope this doesn’t put too much on Marvel’s plate and they screw it up. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Sam Rami’s take on Spider Man in the same way I liked Tim Burton’s Bat Man but as we have seen there is always room for improvement.

Tim Burton’s Batman came out in 1989 while Batman Begins came out in 2005. Thats a 16 year period between reboots. The 2008 version Hulk came too soon to be the mega-hit producers wanted it to be. It would appear the people at Fox haven’t learned anything by this.

As far as Spiderman is concerned, it doesn’t need a reboot. It was SM3 that sucked, not the first one. I really don’t need to see another version of how Peter Parker got bit by a radioactive spider and became Spiderman. However, I suspect that in this case Columbia is just using the word reboot as a euphemism for re-casting Peter Parker and bringing in another director.

The reason their trotting it out is because if they don’t make another film they will lose the rights that they hold currently.

So depending on where this goes, I’d be willing to see what they can do with a new cast. It also depends on what stories they are going to tell.

I don’t mind a reboot if it means they’ll fix everything that was wrong with the first two movies. They are ok but not “fantastic.” As for the cast, I wouldn’t mind if they kept everyone except Alba. She was wrong, wrong, wrong for the part.

I don’t think we should get hung up on the word reboot. All they’re doing is saying things aren’t going right so we’re going to take the franchise in another direction, new director/actors. Considering the way Spider-man (always my favourite hero) and FF are going I’m quite happy with that. Just so long as they don’t feel the need to redo the origin stories. I really enjoyed the Incredible Hulk, it was a good movie so who cares if the last -horrible- one had a different actor. If they make another movie with these heroes and it’s actually good, why should we complain. If it needs fixing, then fix it. If it doesn’t don’t.
