Singer Rumored to Direct “Battlestar” Movie

Singer Rumored to Direct “Battlestar” Movie

August 13, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

singerBefore we got the relaunch of “Battlestar Galactica” from Ron Moore and David Eick, SciFi was developing a take on the project that included director Bryan Singer and Tom De Santo.

The project was to be a back-door, reboot pilot for a new series of “Galactica,” but it was put on the shelf by SciFi after the September 11th attacks. According to reports, Singer and company were three months from beginning production when September 11th occurred. With the new movie involving a sneak attack by the Cylons, SciFi postponed the project, leading to Singer and DeSanto dropping out and opening the door for Moore and Eick.

Now with the new “Battlestar” completing its run earlier this year, Universal Pictures thinks there may still be life in the franchise. And while the new series had a definitive wrap-up, Universal would like to see a new big-screen version.

And, once again, it appears Singers name may be connected to the project. Hit Fix reports that Singer has talked to Universal about working on a new “Galactica” project with the possibility that he may direct. If Singer comes on board, word is he’d hired a screen writer to update the original scripts (which he is said to have really liked) and begin pre-production.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard about “Galactica” jumping to the big-screen. Earlier this year, we reported that Glen A. Larsen, the creator of the original series said that Universal was interested in a new movie version of “Galactica.”

It’s confirmed: Bryan Singer is directing a BSG movie, and co-producing with Glen Larson. http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2009/08/13/bryan-singer-battlestar-galactica-movie/

What about the new “Caprica” series? Wouldn’t it be kind of confusing to introduce a new BSG series (movie series, that is) when one is still technically ongoing?
