Chalk up another first-place opening for director Judd Apatow. Apatow’s latest comedy movie, “Funny People” opened at the top of the box-office this week, taking in $23.4 million in ticket sales.
“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” held on at second, taking in $17.7 million. Those grosses took the sixth installment in the franchise over the $250 million mark, ensuring the streak of Potter films making north of $250 millon isn’t broken.
Last week’s top grossing film “G-Force” was third with $17 million. Rounding out the top five were “The Ugly Truth” and “Aliens in the Attic.”
Overall, ticket sales were down sharply from the same weekend last year. Of course, last year a small film called “The Dark Knight” was virtually printing money at the box-office.
