“G-Force” Out-whizzes Potter

“G-Force” Out-whizzes Potter

July 27, 2009 By Sam Sloan 3 Comments

Those furry critters known as “G-Force” have knocked “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” off its North American box office throne after just one week.

“G-Force” tells the story of three animated guinea pigs who are really top secret spies. A combo of CGI animation and live-action, the film earned $32.1 million across North America, while Potter, in its second weekend since its debut, came in at a close second with around $30 million.

The box office fall-off of 61 percent for the sixth film in the Potter series is mega when compared to the previous five outings. However, shed no tears for Harry. Half-blood Prince will easily become the second biggest box office film of the series before all is said and done, and while the G-pigs are a faint memory, Potter will no-doubt still reign strong in the minds of movie goers over the decades. Currently worldwide, “Harry Potter has grossed over $627 million in just one week.

Went to see G-Force w/ my 9yr old daughter yesterday. Fortunately I had low expectations so I wasn’t disappointed. I certainly wasn’t going to pay the premium for 3-D. You can’t put enough special effects and technology to make that smelly POS story look anything like roses. Probably the worst part was that they left it wide open for a sequel.

    If we’re lucky maybe we’ll get a G-Force trilogy.

Saw G-force with my 3 and 6 year old. The fart jokes do it every time for 6 year olds. Most kids movie I can endure, this was just plain painful. This is an AWFUL movie. But your 6 year old will get a few laughs. A few.
