Slice of SciFi Briefs for Tuesday – July 7, 2009

July 7, 2009 By S. K. Sloan Leave a Comment

When the new Potter film, “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” makes its debut on July 15 in London, all the stars of the JK Rowling feature, including its top three performers – Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint – will be wearing a special white ribbon bracelet in honor of co-star Rob Knox. Knox, who stars as Marcus Belby in this feature film, was recently murdered by a man who was attacking his brother one night in May.

Sony announced today that it has plans to jump into the netbook market with its new Vaio laptop that will retail for about $629 (USD) beginning in August of this year. Smaller than a notebook PC, the netbook is ideal for simple computing such as email and web browsing. However, with a price tag that steep in today’s economy it might be a while before the average consumer jumps on board.

Actor and stand-up comedian Brad Garrett, best known as Raymond’s brother in “Everybody Loves Raymond,” will be getting tooned in the near future. The funnyman is gearing up to develop, voice and produce a new half-hour adult cable animated feature titled “Dumb Bunny and Jackass” for Sony Pictures TV. The series will be based on characters created by Bill Kopp and his “Eek! The Cat” and “Toonsylvania” projects.
