Bay To Move On From “Transformers”

June 22, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

Michael Bay is apparently tired of critics using his action-heavy films as a punching bag.

“It’s easy to go shoot an art movie in a winery in the South of France. But people have no idea how hard it is to create something like Transformers,” the director told WENN.  “They (the critics) review me before they’ve even seen the movie.”

Bay has decided that after “Transformers: Rise of the Fallen” debuts in theaters later this week, he will move on from the action-drama–and that includes stepping away from directing the third installment of the series.

“After the three and a half years I’ve spent making these movies, I feel like I’ve had enough of the Transformers world,” he said. “I need to do something totally divergent, something without any explosions.”

He’s going to blow up wineries next? Transformers was good for what it was, but be honest here, there wasn’t a whole lot of a plot there. Popcorn movies are fun, but if that is all you are doing, then yeah you are going to get type cast and known for that. I wish him luck, but might be too late to change. Going to be a tough sell trying to get someone interested in a art film by MIchael Bay.

Wow. He worked on those for 3 and a half years… Probably made more money than I have in the past 20 or next 20. I think I get the right to rag on his movies…

I don’t know, call me crazy, but he gets paid a lot of money – you’d think that’d insulate him a bit.

For some reason, whenever I think of Bay films, I think of Team America
