“Teen Wolf” Remake in the Works

“Teen Wolf” Remake in the Works

June 18, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 10 Comments

The original film helped cement Michael J. Fox as one of the biggest stars of the 80’s, but we have to ask–does the world really need a “Teen Wolf” remake?

Warner Brothers thinks we do, according to MovieHole.  The studio acquired the rights to the movie and its sequel a couple of years ago and are looking for the right script for a new “Teen Wolf.”   There is no word yet on how the studio will approach the material–whether it will be a complete reboot or a “Son of Teen Wolf” sequel/reboot of the film.

“Teen Wolf” was a minor hit in the 80’s at the height of Michael J. Fox’s popularity on TV and in “Back to the Future.”   It told the story of a teenage boy who discovers the family secret–they’re all werewolves.  He uses this fact and the enhanced strength to help win basketball games, get the girl and become the Big Wolf on Campus.   The film occasionally shows up on American Movie Classics and it available on DVD along with its sequel, “Teen Wolf Too” (which did not star Fox, but fellows 80’s sitcom icon, Jason Bateman).

A series based on the movie was proposed in the 90’s but never saw the light of day.

No word yet on who would direct or star in the movie.

Sweet Jeebus, Hollywood! Enough with the remakes already! Have a friggin’ original idea, would you?

(Also, I think Oz on BtVS was a hundred times better than any Teen Wolf TV series could ever be.)

It’s all a conspiracy on Hollywood’s part, leading up to their final plan, the remake of Howard the Duck!!

If Hollywood had any balls they’d remake Apocalypse Now, instead of some B-grade comedy. 🙂

Oh yea, after Teen Wolf all of Pauly Shore’s movies will be fair game for remakes. Not just Encino Man but also, Bio-Dome, In the Army Now and The Son in Law will all be seen as legitimate targets for remakes.

I want to see an interview with the director of the remade Teen Wolf and read how the “original artistic spirit” (or some other artsy-fartsy terminology) has been retained in the remake.

Has the vampire fad died out already? I was really hoping for frankenstein before werewolves came on the scene.
