Wired Blog Stirs Up “Geek Arguments”

Wired Blog Stirs Up “Geek Arguments”

June 9, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 18 Comments

Want to pick a fight with a geek?    If so, the Wired blog Digital Dad has a list of ten things that are sure to make a geek see red and begin arguing.

Among the highlights are:

4. “The Ewoks were the best thing about the original Star Wars trilogy.” / “Greedo shot first!”

and

2.  “Joss Whedon is a hack.”

You can see the rest of the list by surfing over to the blog post HERE.

And you can tell us which one would most get you arguing with our poll below.

Wow. I guess it depends on the particular geeks in question. For me, it would be Greedo, Joss Whedon and DRM.

(I actually like the Ewoks. Please don’t throw rancid produce.)

The rest are largely based on personal preferences, and I can’t really get riled up over those. Try to change people’s minds on occasion, sure, but not be really belligerent or anything.

Well of the list personally the DRM question would make my head explode. But I like adding additional Geek love.

None of those exact phrases would irk me, but I’d have to say console & PC fanboys are probably the closest thing that might get me in a geek war. You gotta learn to love all formats! But we all know that one Sith could take down an entire Borg cube! 😛

Ewoks? Meh. They only stand out if you ignore everything Lucas has done since 1990. And within Return of the Jedi, Leia’s costume more than made up for them.

I remember getting into a really bad geek war some years back when someone wrote a piece of fan fiction where the ORIGINAL Battlestar Galactica was able to easily defeat the Enterprise-D in a fight.

I had forgotten about that little geek fight I was in until I read these other argument points.

Also, why would the PotC be fighting words? I don’t get it. I mean, the whole EIC thing was historically accurate; at one point it actually was more powerful than the British Empire. I’m not a Republican, I actually paid attention in history class.

Han Solo will always shoot first and anyone who disagrees should be fed to the Sarlacc on Tatooine!

How could Greedo miss from across the table? If he’s that bad of a shot, he wouldn’t have survived his first bounty.

I enjoy Terry Brooks more than Tolkien only because Brooks has published more books. Tolkien will always be the pioneer that started it all.

Star Wars/Star Trek…what’s the difference? It’s all badly written kid stuff.

I swear I saw a fellow geek just pass out right there…

Better than the Ewok one is “I thought Jar Jar was charming and endearing.”

Or this one “The new Transformers look great, not like crappy backyard junk projects at all. Oh, and Optimus Prime has always needed lips!”
