Disney/Pixar’s latest animated movie, “Up” held off competition from two new movies to retain the number one slot at the box-office over the weekend according to the Associated Press.
“Up” sailed with $44.2 million in ticket sales over the weekend, edging out “The Hangover” and “The Land of the Lost.” “The Hangover” was second with $43.3 million and “Land of the Lost” was third with $19.5 million.
And while Disney and Warner Brothers are happy with their two box-office leaders this weekend, Universal Pictures may be left with the first big dud of the summer in “Land of the Lost.” The heavily promoted film came in well below projected estimates for the film and will have a difficult time making back its high production cost.
Rounding out the top five were “Night at the Museum 2” and “Star Trek.”
