ITV Seeks Digital Partner for “Primeval”

May 28, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

If you’ve seen the ratings for ITV’s third season of “Primeval,” a fourth season would seem like a no-brainer.

And while the ratings may justify a fourth season, British network ITV haven’t comissioned a fourth season of the sci-fi drama.   ITV has had to cut back its commissions due to declining ad revenues.  The decline has lead Digital Partners, who produce the show,  to look into a digital partner to help pay for the fourth season of the hit series.  The new deal would give first-run rights to SciFi U.K. and second-run rights to ITV.

Featuring Douglas Henshall and Ben Miller as investigative scientists, the show about dinosaurs coming to earth through wormholes in space has given ITV a strong modern drama to air in a Saturday evening slot, helping it to reconnect with family and young male audiences.

NBC and Impossible Pictures declined comment, while a spokesman for ITV said only that  Fincham expected to make a decision on re-commissioning the show “within the next few weeks.”

This midget article shows a shocking lack of comprehension of the most basic aspects of the show.

    1) Dinosaurs don’t need to come to earth. They aren’t aliens. They are coming to “the present”
    2) they are not wormholes in space, they are temporal anomalies
    3) Douglas Henshall’s character is dead, the big name is now Jason Flemyng

Not recommissioning it is insane. I was never allowed to watch the bilge that ITV pumps out and I haven’t let my kids watch it either. The only reason ITV ever goes on in this house is for Primeval. They should cancel some of the rot that they make for stupid people instead.

all tv producers should be looking at or for a way to be profitable on the www the best way might be to ask for donations from the veiwer and get rid of the ad companys if terminator scc or star trek had ask their viewers they would have had more then their needs and more then they get from ads I live in the us i never miss primeval or breaking bad but i dont get itv or amc the www is here like it or not

    Clare you missed a point-

    4. Ben Miller plays a public servant, not a scientist

With Michael Grade (The man who killed off “classic” Doctor Who) as Executive Chairman of ITV I say that a no brainer is is what ITV is running on now. I don’t expect intelligent decisions from Mr. Grade.
