“Chariots of the Gods” Optioned for Feature Film

March 11, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

The book that served as part of the inspiration for the original “Battlestar Galactica” in the 70’s has been optioned to become a big-screen science-fiction epic according to Variety.

Erich von Daniken’s “Chariots of the Gods” has been optioned by Paradox Entertainment for big-screen treatment.  The book asserted that Earth had been visited by aliens and explored evidence that different civilizations were visited by extraterrestrials.

The book has sold 68 million copies worldwide and has been published in 32 languages. It also spawned a 1974 documentary.

No word yet on how the book would be adapted for the big-screen or when production would begin.

Because you can never get enough of un-athletic-looking white men running on a beach in old-fashioned underwear to music much more grandiose than the plot, the characters, or . . . wait . . . I’m thinking of Chariots of Fire. Never mind.

It only took 40 years to get someone to do this…I read the book back in 5th grade because I was bored in class when these type of books were popular…now if they can get Leonard Nimoy to do update specials of things he narrated on “In Search Of” back in the day…and why not bring the British sci-fi show “UFO” to the big screen as well???
