Verbinski in Talks to Direct “Clue”

Verbinski in Talks to Direct “Clue”

February 25, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 1 Comment

The man who brought us Jack Sparrow is talking to Universal Pictures about bringing “Clue” to the big-screen. Director Gore Verbinski, who helmed all three installments of “The Pirates of the Caribbean” is in serious discussions to discuss a new movie version of the popular  board game, “Clue.”

Readers from the 80’s may recall that a film from that time frame that was also based on the popular board game and is considered a cult classic.  The movie is best-known for its three endings.

Twenty-five years later, Universal has a new partnerships with Hasbro and wants to bring the board-game to the big-screen.  A writer has not been attached to the film, but it looks like Universal is hoping that Verbinksi can work the same magic with “Clue” as he did with “Pirates.”  The director took an idea that many scoffed upon first hearing and turned it into a successful and profitable franchise for Disney.

“Clue” is one of several board-game based movies on the horizon for Universal.   As previously reported, “Candyland” and “Monopoly” are also in development for the silver-screen.
