Before the weekend started, many predicted the new Anne Hathaway romantic comedy, “Bride Wars” would easily take the top spot at the box office. However, veteran actor Clint Eastwood proved he’s still a box office draw as his new drama, “Grand Torino” expanded nationwide and captured the top spot at the box-office.
Many expect Eastwood’s latest staring role to garner him an Oscar nomination. But until then, he’ll have to be content with box-office gold. The film took in a solid $29 million over the weekend.
In second was “Bride Wars,” with $21.5 million and third saw the new horror-thriller, “The Unborn” with $21.1 million.
The number one draw at the box office, “Marley and Me” fell to fourth in its third weekend and Brad Pitt’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” continued to do solid business at number five.
Ticket sales were even with last weekend and up 24% from the same weekend last year, according to reports.
Final figures will be available later this week.
