Who Will Be the Next “Doctor Who” Companion?

Who Will Be the Next “Doctor Who” Companion?

January 5, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 12 Comments

Now that we know who the next Doctor will be, the speculation can begin on who will play the next companion to the time traveling Time Lord.

According to NME, the BBC is considering British singer Lily Allen as the new companion for Matt Smith’s eleventh Doctor.

Executive producer of the show, Piers Wenger, told the Daily Telegraph: “Having got the casting of the Doctor out of the way, the companion role is where we will be looking next. Someone terribly exciting like Billie Piper, who was at the beginning of her acting career but who had a profile for other reasons, would be great. We are looking for someone whose light can burn brightly.”

While it hasn’t been confirmed that Allen will be the new companion, Wenger said she’d certainly get consideration if she auditioned.

Also rumored to be in the running are Kelly Brook and Rachel Stevens.

Of course, all of these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt.

Blah. Do not need 90210: The TARDIS Edition.

How about a choice that’ll shake things up.

Or how about bringing Jenny back? How’s that for a reason to live, eh Doctor?

I dunno, I think Lily has the right amount of Cheek to pull it off.

I’ve been saying this for years: MALE PRIMARY COMPANION. We’ve had male Companions in the new series, but we’ve yet to see one be the main guy. Captain Jack and Mickey both took backseat to Rose. Let’s see something we haven’t seen yet in the new series.

I also like the rumblings about having a Companion who’s a fair whack older than Matt Smith. Certainly has some opportunity for humour.

I wouldn’t call Billie Piper terribly exciting. Her ditzy character Rose got on my nerves after a while. Catherine Tate played a much better traveling companion.

    Lizzie,

There have been several male companions over the course of Dr Who’s history…Ian, Stephen, Jaime, Adric, Harry Sullivan, Captain Jack….

The female companion should played by an unknown, or lesser known, actress. No star names. Top of my list is Manchester-born Rachel Shenton. She falls into this category, as she has never landed a TV leading role.

I’d kinda like them to have more than one long-term companion. In the new series you always have the main companion, but the others come and go from episode to episode. I’d like to have at least two series-long regulars.
