The box-office went to the dogs this weekend with “Marley and Me” winning the top spot for the weekend.
“Marley” was one of three new releases to open strong for the weekend. In second place was the Adam Sandler Disney movie, “Bedtime Stories” and in third was “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”
The Tom Cruise/Bryan Singer “Valkyrie” opened at a solid fourth place for the weekend. All four films were released on Christmas Day. One other film released on Christmas Day didn’t fare as well. “The Spirit” stumbled out of the gate, coming in at only ninth place overall for the weekend.
“Fortunately, we had a situation where all the top movies had core audiences that overlapped some, but each had a primary audience,” Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore said. “The core audiences led the charge and also brought along people they also thought would be interested.”
Final results will be released later this week.
