Wilde, Garrett Cast in “Tron 2.0”

December 16, 2008 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

The long-rumored “Tron 2.0” is inching closer to becoming a reality.  According to today’s Hollywood Reporter, actresses Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett have signed on for the sequel to Disney’s 1982 film.

Wilde and Garrett appeared together in “Turistas.”  Wilde can be seen in Fox’s medical drama, “House” and Garrett had a role in “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.”

The sequel to “Tron” will be directed by Joseph Kosinski and is produced by Sean Bailey, Steven Lisberger (who co-wrote and directed the original film), and Jeff Silver.

The new movie will be a  “next chapter” in the Tron universe with  plot details are being guarded closely. Wilde will play a worker in the virtual world who tries to help fight Master Control Program, the villainous intelligence protocol that was the nemesis in the original film. Garrett will play a siren in the virtual world.

The studio is currently looking for the male lead in the movie.  According to reports, screen-tests for the new male lead are on-going.

“Tron 2.0” is eyeing a spring shoot.

Pity they arn’t considering the game TRON 2.0 a sequel and making this a third installment of the series. Had a pretty good story and fit into the universe quite well.
