Fuller: “Daisies” Would Finish in Comic Books

November 13, 2008 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Good news for fans of “Pushing Daisies”–one way or another, you will get closure on the series.

Ideally, ABC would pick-up the second season drama for a full season, allowing things to unfold on screen.  But if ABC should decide to pull the plug on the quirky drama, series creator Bryan Fuller has a plan to finish out the story in comic books.

“The idea would be to finish out the season’s story arcs in comic books,” Fuller said during a “Inside the Writers Room” night at the Paley Center for Media Tuesday evening.  The comic would likely be publshed by DC because “Daisies” is produced by DC’s corporate sibling, Warner Brothers.

The purpose of the comic book series would be “to satisfy the fans and ourselves, to finish up the stories we’d love to tell” and to “clear the slate for a movie” Fuller said.

Fuller said that he has pitched the second half of the season to ABC executives and he’s waiting on word from them as to whether or not the show will continue.  Fuller said the last produced episode is “something we can all be proud of” and that “it sets up a new direction for the series, but it’s a satisfying ending.”

Looks like the ball is in ABC’s court, for now.

Poor Bryan Fuller. Him, Joss Whedon and Tim Minear need to start up a support group.

Well, as much as I’m hoping for the series to get a pick-up, this is comforting to know. With so many worlds I enjoy making the transition to paper-and-ink form, I’m finally becoming something of a comic book geek. Whoda thunk it? 🙂
