Cher….The Catwoman? Please!

August 29, 2008 By Sam Sloan 12 Comments

Please say it isn’t so. Rumor has it that Academy Award winning actress/singer/songwriter Cher, now 62, is negotiating for the part of Catwoman opposite Christan Bale in director Christopher Nolan’s next Batman movie.

A Warner Bros. studio executive is quoted by the UK’s Telegraph as saying “Cher is Nolan’s first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years. The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry’s purring creations.”

It is also being suggested that Johnny Depp will be starring as The Riddler.

If the rumor that Cher is under serious consideration is true, and if she portrays Catwoman as this aging vamp of a troublemaker for “The Batman,” then having her in the role could prove to be quite interesting. However, if Cher succumbs to ego and insists on trying to pull off a younger, more athletic Catwoman, then the franchise will simply slip back into the doldrums that Nolan originally rescued it from.

Of course, having Depp in any film is always a treat to watch and an automatic upgrade to the next notch in filmmaking.

Last I heard, yesterday, the Cher thing had already fallen through. Personally, I think that if Nolan really wants an older woman to play Catwoman, he ought to go for Anjelica Huston, a much more accomplished actress with infinitely more grace and dignity.

Depp would be fun but Cher? C’mon! That’s just plain stupid. Of course, I’m not a big fan of Nolan’s interpretation of Batman. I guess I’ll wait for round 3 and see if someone else can get it right.

You knew when The Dark Knight brought in truckloads of dough that The Suits would somehow start stirring the Pot of Suck for the next Batman film…Cher? WTF?

And two villains per movie? Really? Again? Didn’t anyone learn anything from the previous Batman movies besides putting nipples on Batman’s breastplate is just silly.

    This. Can’t. Be. True.

Ugh. I hope this is a joke. Cher would turn the franchise into a huge pile of suck. She could play Catwoman’s GRANDMOTHER, maybe. But that’s it.

I think Cher would be amazing as Catwoman! I remember it was theorized that she would be Catwoman in Batman Returns, and I was so excited about that. Of course, Michelle Pfeiffer did an amazing job.

I saw Cher in Caesar’s Palace last week (The day before her 63rd birthday) and she looks amazing, even close up, and I was about as close as you could get without actually touching her.

I really wish she would come out of her “movie” retirement and make another film. I really miss her screen presence.

Poo on all you haters – she would be awesome as Catwoman. I’m sorry if it’s true that the deal has fallen through.

Catwoman, absolutely not especially for Cher’s acting credencials. I think she is way too qualified for the part…. is she that desperate to accept a role like that? Would I watch it? Yeah I would.

But, would Cher be interested in being the very first female STAR TREK Captain for the ENTERPRISE or an upcoming lead role ( villan) in STAR WARS? Now that would be a great challenge for her and I think people would truely want to see how she would do. I think she would do an exceptional job…. would STAR TREK, STAR WARS, or Cher be up for the wager?

Beside, for once in Star Trek Historical Franchise it has an opening opportunity to have in its belt a movie with dramatic acting and storyline roles fitting to be nominated and even win an Academy Award for best movie…. and probably Best Actress…..that would definitely be a historic first and adds greater credibility to the franchise for STAR TREK and for the movie industry.

I should get paid for ideas like this one.
