DreamWorks Animation & Intel Team Up for TRU 3D

DreamWorks Animation & Intel Team Up for TRU 3D

August 21, 2008 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

2009 is the year that all of DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc’s films will be turned out in next-generation 3-D, according to Reuters.

“This is the next innovation for the movie industry,” Jeffrey Katzenberg, chief executive of DreamWorks Animation, said in an interview. “It impacts how we make our movies, how movie theaters present our films and how audiences experience our films.”

To make these inroads into high-quality next-gen 3-D DreamWorks Animation and Intel have partnered and developed a new technology dubbed Tru 3D (not to be confused with StereoVision Entertainment’s SVX TRU 3-D).

“The two of us will be working together to generate new computer animation from the ground up,” said Renee James, Intel’s boss for its software and solutions business.

“The quality and creativity of where Intel is headed is light years ahead of what we’ve seen anybody else doing,” Katzenberg added.

Expect to see the Tru 3D technology in the DreamWorks Animation film “Monsters vs. Aliens,” due out on March 27, 2009. The film will feature an all-star voice cast that includes Seth Rogen, Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon, Emmy winner Hugh Laurie, Paul Rudd, Kiefer Sutherland, Stephen Colbert, Rainn Wilson and Will Arnett.
