Any time you take a popular novel and adapt it to the big or small screen, certain changes will have to be made. The changes can be big or small, but one thing is always certain–changes can make long-time fans of the series nervous.
Author Terry Goodkind is aware of the nervousness his fans may feel as his popular fantasy series “The Sword of Truth” comes to television screens this fall as the syndicated series, “Legend of the Seeker.” But Goodkind assures fans they won’t be disappointed.
“I think what readers read the story for is because they want to watch and follow characters that they love and hate,” Goodkind said. “They want to be with those characters and follow that story and know what’s going to happen. Exactly what those characters do isn’t as important.”
“If the characters are great characters and you want to journey with them, the story is secondary,” Goodkind said. “Every time I do a new book–that’s like saying a new book couldn’t possibly work because the readers read the previous book, and why would they read more stories about the characters? It’s the characters that are important.”
Goodkind added that he was prepared for some fans to be unhappy with the syndicated TV series, from producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. “I’m sure there’s always going to be dissatisfied [people],” he said. “But I think the vast majority of fans, their greatest hope and desire is to see the hero and heroine they love brought to life on screen.”
“The Legend of the Seeker” will premiere on Nov. 1 and will air on Saturday nights in syndication
I am so rediculously excited about this I am speechless. As the man said, I’m just ready to see these characters come to life.
